Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia

Banská Štiavnica is a town in central Slovakia in the middle of an immense caldera created by the collapse of an ancient volcano. In order to preserve medieval features in the town and because of its historical significance as a producer of gold and silver, the town and its surroundings were proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. You can see the Calvary church from yesterday's image on a hill in the distance.
