Gondola on the go

Posted by
Michael Skorulski (Toronto, Canada) on 8 December 2008 in Transportation and Portfolio.

A gondola as photographed from a vaporetto, a water bus. The first of many images on Venice, Italy where I spent a recent three-day break.

SONY DSLR-A300 1/15 second F/11.0 ISO 100 105 mm (35mm equiv.)

cat from tel aviv, Israel

Terrific motion blur in the background - and wonderfully sharp image of the gondola. You've given it such a feeling of speed, and on the skill of the gondolier.

Hope you enjoyed your break! :)

8 Dec 2008 4:39pm

@MaryB: Yes, these gondoliers tend to be real speed demons. thanks, Mary.

Love the fact the street in the background seems to move faster than the gondola ! See you*

It´s somehow funny to see a gondola in motion like that , we are so used to f1 cars , motorbikes etc , really original , I like it!

9 Dec 2008 11:10am

@Hikari: Thank you, Hikari. Yes, the day before I arrived Venice was experiencing its worst flooding in 20 years. Luckily it was dry for me.

Nina from Hamburg, Germany

Colors, composition, clarity are fantastic... and the speed of the gondola is wonderfully captured!

9 Dec 2008 11:18am

You get the impression from the blur that he is going so fast his ribbon ought to be stuck out straight behind him.

@grouser: Thank you, grouser.

Wolfgang - vu@granby from Granby, Québec, Canada

You were certainly lucky that the water had receeded. God shot that shows the speed differential between the gongola & the vaporetto well.
