Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as seen from the statue of Cristo Redentor (see yesterday's image) on Corcovado mountain. Rio will host the 2016 Olympics.

@Judy: Many thanks, Judy. I'm sure those early settlers would be amazed by Rio now. It is one of my favorite cities although it has really big problems with crime and violence.

Beautiful exposure, the city and landscape look other-worldly, a Shangri-La. So poignant, then, that the reality on the ground is somewhat different... yet somehow deepens the image's mythological effect. Fantastic.

I love how the city itself is in sharp detail but as you look beyond it is shrouded in mist. What a beautiful capture of this wonderful city Michael. The landscape is very unique and pleasing to the eye.
