San Giorgio Maggiore Island

San Giorgio Maggiore Island, Venice taken from the Bell Tower in St. Mark's Square. The church on the island was designed by Palladio and begun in 1566. The third in my black and white series.

This 'floating island' is a concept I cannot get my brain to encompass. Is there rock beneath it? I guess I should study it on my own and not be asking questions. :D
