Let me inPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 5 January 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio. The huge blue doors of Venice's Santa Maria della Salute (St. Mary of Health) Church. In 1630, after nearly a third of Venice's 150,000 citizens had died from the black plague, the Venetian Senate promised God they would build a church to the Virgin Mary if He would put an end to the deaths. The plague ended and the church was completed in 1682.
