The rustle of reeds

Posted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 25 October 2008 in Plant & Nature.

Yesterday, I drove along the Saudi Arabian coast on the edge of the Persian Gulf. I was looking for silence. I came to a vast wet area, a tidal flat known as a Sahbka. It looked interesting and inviting but I knew that if I drove onto it I would get stuck in the soggy mud.

I got out of the truck. It was very quiet, except on the edge of the tidal flat I could hear the beautiful rustle of reeds blowing in the wind.
