A statue of the Virgin and Child at the Church of St. Maria Del Soccorso which now occupies the top level of the ruins of Villa Jovis on the Isle of Capri, Italy. The villa was the home of Roman Emperor Tiberius in the 1st century A.D. It took my wife and I almost two hours to walk upward to it from the island's seafront.

Sounds like quite a walk, but well worth it in the end! The statue looks enormous - and the child looks very big - I noticed that in some variations on this Virgin Mary and Child theme the Child is very tiny, like a newborn and in others he is very large...

Perfect sky for the backdrop here . . you did real well on the exposure/processing to get the right balances in what must have been a difficult shot. Beautiful sculpture, too.

Visually stunning, and technically superb. So difficult to get the lighting and detail spot on for shots up into the sky, but this is beautifully done. Wonderful

It was definatly worth the walk, what a beautiful statue, it looks magnificent against the blue sky and wispy clouds.
I think walking up there was a good choice Michael, (did you use that winding walkway?) we took a mini bus, to Ana Capri, it' was like being in a rollercoaster car !! lol

@MaryB: Thanks, Mary. There were stairs and alleyways up from the harbour. Then we walked through Capri town, lost our way, then continued on up to the villa. You could see it from a long way off. it must be one of the highest spots on the island. It was a vigorous hike. I guess the emperor was carried up.
