Baths of PompeiiPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 18 September 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio. The city of Pompeii, Italy was destroyed in a violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The roof of nearly every building collapsed from the weight of ash and pumice spewed out by the volcano. The roof of the city baths appears to have survived.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesAmazing. Just like the arch of a few days ago, the Romans really knew how to build domed roofs. It's hard to imagine it survived for such a long time. Is all the light coming from the skylight? 18 Sep 2008 5:10am @Steve Rice: Thanks, Steve. There are a couple of opening in the roof. I wonder how I could have even thought to stay away, this is STUNNING, that authenticity is hard to come by, Bravo Michael ;) 18 Sep 2008 9:19am @Lorraine: Thanks so much, Lorraine.
