Duelling dudePosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 14 July 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. This handsome young man at Bojnice Castle invited us to watch him and others demonstrate their sword fighting ability. I was more interested in watching trained hawks and falcons. We even found the place where they were kept. I started photographing a hawk but was warned away by a handler who told me the hawk might attack me.

Kylie Greenan from Richmond, AustraliaGreat outfit! I like the "void" image on his face, makes you wonder what is going through his mind.. sounds like a much safer option to photograph... although did you say he had a sword? :o) Lovely colour, Great work! 14 Jul 2008 5:32am @Kylie Greenan: Thanks, Kylie. A great comment. I think he really wasn't happy to have his photo taken and he's hiding that annoyance behind the void look. @Ana Lúcia: Thank you, Ana Lúcia. Sometimes a blank face is a good expression. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanHe has a nice costume and.....A GREAT HAT! I'd love to have it!!! 14 Jul 2008 8:25am @Japanalia: I absolutely agree. Thanks, Gabriela. @hugo poon: Thank you so much, Hugo. Koushiro~光子郎 from Singapore, SingaporeNice costume! Although he looks kinda bored... I though the hawks were supposed to be trained? Why would they attack? Unless you had some really tasty tidbits! 14 Jul 2008 9:10am @Koushiro~光子郎: Perhaps they might attack people nearby if their trainer wasn't with them. Thank you, Koushiro. @Peter Miller: Thanks, Peter. I liked the outfit too. It would be great to be able to wear something like this from time to time. John Maslowski from Dallas,PA, United StatesLike the way you framed this portrait shot. The outfit is fantastic. Really a nice job, the colors go very well together here. 14 Jul 2008 9:31am @John Maslowski: Thank you, John. I appreciate that. Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaWow what a great 'historian portrait' I love this and hawks and falcons, hell I hope you get one, indirectly of course...my cats aren't crazy about the flash either lol Be careful... 14 Jul 2008 9:47am @Lorraine: I will be. thanks so much, Lorraine. Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomI like the detailed costume, very colorful. He seems to be waiting patiently for the 'click'. 14 Jul 2008 10:21am @Observing: Yes, he wasn't too eager to have his photo taken. thanks, Mike. saeed from ahwaz, Iranhe looks so gentle! really nice portrait dear Michael! nicely done 14 Jul 2008 11:31am @saeed: Thank you so much, Saeed. Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomThis gets me wondering why the guy looks 'modern' while all around him is old. I suppose we have 20th/21st Century faces ! 14 Jul 2008 2:10pm @Ronnie 2¢: Quite right. Perhaps he is too healthy and clean-shaven to be convincing. thanks, Ronnie. Thanks, Michael. 14 Jul 2008 8:33pm @Mirko Herzner: Thanks, Mirko. I like the historical very much too. dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, United Statesooh -- yes, well i would have been intent on capturing the hawks too, had i been present! but this is a very inquisitive portrait -- the expression is quite captivating -- not usually an expression you see on an adolescent or adult for that matter -- at least not on public display! marvelous capture! 14 Jul 2008 9:35pm @dj.tigersprout: thanks for the great and thoughtful comment, Jaycee. Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesSuch a serious expression you captured! Good work! 15 Jul 2008 12:55am @Craig: Thank you, Craig. akarui from Kagoshima, JapanNice and interesting costume. Wild birds would attack for protecting their nest only, but I don't know about captive ones. 15 Jul 2008 1:02am @akarui: Perhaps the handler just didn't want me to disturb them. thank you, Akarui. Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesGreat photo.
