Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesSo these are not the run of the mill inventory at the local Pier 1 store. An amazing collection Michael, well photographed. 15 May 2008 2:12am @Viewfinder: Many thanks, VF. @pLusOne: Thank you, P1. Illuci from Hurdegaryp, NetherlandsVery special photo! It's weird, but the fat figures and the slim and smart-looking figures differ so much, and yet in Holland they both are called "buddha figures". Buddha couldn't be that fat because of his sober lifestyle, and I have read somewhere that the fat ones are in fact Chinese gods of Luck and Prosperity, not buddhas. But the misunderstanding among the people remains. 15 May 2008 8:11am @Illuci: Thank you, Erik. Your added information was interesting. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanThis must be a very interesting shop! No need to buy, just have a good look around! I like the two overweight men, laughing so heartily! In Japan they are part of the team of the "Seven Gods of Fortune". 15 May 2008 8:46am @Japanalia: A great comment, Gabriela. Thank you. |
