Jubail, Saudi Arabia - A heap of carpets, including expensive Persian rugs, is piled on the sidewalk waiting to be taken inside. Every few months a handicrafts seller visits our compound with his Asian wares.

@MadScientist: Thanks so much, MS.
I love Persian carpets, their colours and patterns being so delightful and the material so luxuriant under bare feet. I hope you get to buy a few while you are living in Saudi Arabia, Michael.

@givethemhell: I probably will buy some. Many thanks, Eva.
Beautiful, and so casually treated by the merchant. Leaving them alone on a big-city street in the US might be an "at-risk" behavior. Obviously not where you are photographing this.
9 May 2008 6:46am
@Viewfinder: Yes, even $1000 vases were left out on a window ledge when the merchant brought them to our compound. Thank you, VF.
A nice "slice-of-life" picture!

@António Pires: Thank you, António.
What a pleasure it would be to take every carpet, unfold it and get yourself surrounded by many.many.many of these entrancing pieces of craftsmanship!In this respect I envy the Arabs and the Persians......they utterly enjoy the lush sensuality of carpets, while we're just putting one piece on the floor. (In a real Japanese house, with tatami on the floor, it would be a sacrilege to use a carpet! But....I did!)

@Japanalia: Interesting comment, Gabriela. Your break from tradition. Many thanks.
Nice colors and composition with the truck's tailgate down in the background showing that the rugs must have just been unloaded.

@Steven: Yes, exactly. Thank you, Steven.
Originale cette prise de vue car on a tendance à plutôt voir des photos de tapis bien dépliés et bien exposés dans les magasins ou dans les souks... et même si on ne les voit pas tout à fait ici, on devine leur beauté et leur variété...
