Cumulus of carpetsPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 9 May 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. Jubail, Saudi Arabia - A heap of carpets, including expensive Persian rugs, is piled on the sidewalk waiting to be taken inside. Every few months a handicrafts seller visits our compound with his Asian wares.

I hope you get to buy a few while you are living in Saudi Arabia, Michael. 9 May 2008 10:51am @givethemhell: I probably will buy some. Many thanks, Eva. Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesBeautiful, and so casually treated by the merchant. Leaving them alone on a big-city street in the US might be an "at-risk" behavior. Obviously not where you are photographing this. 9 May 2008 11:46am @Viewfinder: Yes, even $1000 vases were left out on a window ledge when the merchant brought them to our compound. Thank you, VF. @vu@granby: Thanks so much, Gilles. Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaThey are stunning, gorgeous, it makes such a heartwarming photo, bravo Michael ;) 9 May 2008 1:16pm @Lorraine: Great comment. Thank you, Lorraine. António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalAll the richness of Persian and Arab tapestry in a well composed photo. 9 May 2008 1:42pm @António Pires: Thank you, António. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanWhat a pleasure it would be to take every carpet, unfold it and get yourself surrounded by many.many.many of these entrancing pieces of craftsmanship! In this respect I envy the Arabs and the Persians......they utterly enjoy the lush sensuality of carpets, while we're just putting one piece on the floor. (In a real Japanese house, with tatami on the floor, it would be a sacrilege to use a carpet! But....I did!) 9 May 2008 2:16pm @Japanalia: Interesting comment, Gabriela. Your break from tradition. Many thanks. Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesNice colors and composition with the truck's tailgate down in the background showing that the rugs must have just been unloaded. 9 May 2008 3:20pm @Steven: Yes, exactly. Thank you, Steven. Merci, Evelyne. Observing from Chester, United KingdomI know all about those 'Rug' shows....! Nice shot 9 May 2008 4:31pm @Observing: Thanks, Mike. Yes, the seller travels to where he thinks people have the funds to pay his inflated prices. @M. Isabel: Many thanks for commenting, Isabel.
