Cumil - A sculpture - Bratislava, SlovakiaPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 8 May 2008 in Art & Design and Portfolio. There are some quirky sculptures in Bratislava's Old town. This is one of them. Some people say that Cumil is a pervert spending most of his day trying to look up women's skirts as they pass by. Others say he's just a hardworking guy watching the world go by from an unusual vantage point. .

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaI don't know, I think by the look on his face he is a bit of a pervert. What an interest sculpture. Thanks for showing it to us. 8 May 2008 5:18am @Marion: Thanks, Marion. Yes, he does have a saucy look! Mandy from Johannesburg, South AfricaI love the look on his face...this is an awesome shot Michael, that's a great statue, he looks almost lifelike!! 8 May 2008 6:34am @Mandy: I agree. thank you, Mandy. Observing from Chester, United KingdomIt certainly is most unusual, but I don't think it would be allowed here in the UK due to safety regulations because of the risk of people tripping and falling. Good shot anyhow. 8 May 2008 6:38am @Observing: Thank you, Mike. @isabel: Thank you, isabel. @Ana Lúcia: Thank you so much. Saeed from ahwaz, IranI liked that something like a bird(pigeon for example!) was in opposite corner of sculpture in this frame at shooting moment!! 8 May 2008 7:23am @Saeed: A bird or pigeon would be wonderful. But none came. Thank you, Saeed. Helma from Tehran, Iranvery nice framing ... nice capture with interesting subject ... thanks. 8 May 2008 8:06am @Helma: Thank you, Helma. @Koushiro~光子郎: Thanks, K. @Alun Lambert: Thank you, Alun. Betty from New Jersey, United StatesLooks like a bit of a pervert to me... by his expression! Excellent shot, Michael. Wonderful statue! 8 May 2008 9:58am @Betty: Many thanks, Betty. I'd say your assessment of his character is correct. @Craig: Thank you, Craig. @eddy: Many thanks, Eddy. @Teresa Durães: Many thanks, Teresa. Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesI'm sure the old boy has instigated many a discussion about his "value" as public art ... and that's exactly what good art should do ... stir emotion and instigate discussion! Regardless of his virtues (or lack thereof), you've captured him beautifully and presented him in another artistic forum. You've framed your shot with an artist's eye and given him plenty of room to peer into. The more I look at him, the more sure I am that he's just a hardworking old soul at the end of another day's work and he's reveling in the world "up above." 8 May 2008 10:38am @Ron: Thank you for the great comment, Ron. I believe the sculptor conceived him to be the hardworking soul you mention. Saeed from Tehran, Iranvery nice shot, good framing & thats good idea for an icon ;) 8 May 2008 11:42am @Saeed: Thank you, Saeed. I wonder who had the idea to put him in a man-hole? Really well composed, as always Michael ! 8 May 2008 3:54pm @Anne: Thank you, Anne. Yes, the sculptor certainly had an original and humorous concept! Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaHe does have a bit of a leer. I wish we had interesting sculptures like that. It gave me a good chuckle. 8 May 2008 5:17pm @Michael Rawluk: Thank you, Michael. Sculptures like this do add a lot of fun. Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesI say he's a hard worker who has come up for some clean air after working down below. ManuelaR from Hainburg, GermanyVery original sculpture and here too this would probably not be allowed due to tripping accidents... 8 May 2008 5:32pm @ManuelaR: Many thanks, Manuela. I'm glad regulations are still loose in Slovakia. Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceEncore une originale sculpture !! @Oswegan: Years, I guess.
