Deadly dancePosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 29 April 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. Swirls of razor wire on our compound wall shimmer in the glare of a security spotlight. The precaution attests to security concerns in Saudi Arabia. The wire is designed to keep the bad guys out.

Rhys from Darlington, United Kingdomreally interesting design, without the bright burnt out glare of the light this wouldn't work, the harshness adds the sinister edge - 'we are watching you'. nice work. 29 Apr 2008 5:29am @Rhys: Thank you, Rhys. I found the wire gaily sinister. @mosleh: Thank you. pLusOne from Cheonan, South Koreait's sad that we have to keep sb out of our life..... 29 Apr 2008 6:44am @pLusOne: Thank you, P1. MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomI like the way the beautiful curved shapes the razor wire create belies it's sharpness. 29 Apr 2008 7:33am @MaryB: thank you, Mary. I appreciate that. @dpm: Thank you, dpm. @Alun Lambert: Thank you, Alun. martie from Okinawa, JapanMichael - you always seem to know just how to capture something plain and make it extraordinary. This is a prime example of it. It is so frustrating to know that we live in a world where this kind of security is necessary, yet you have captured beauty in this sad image. Well done! 29 Apr 2008 9:30am @martie: I agree. There is a strange attractiveness in it although I was interested in showing the conditions I live under. Thank you, Martie. Peter Miller from Lichfield, United Kingdomphoto is as sharp as the wire, unusual composition 29 Apr 2008 9:44am @Peter Miller: Thank you, Peter. @HoMo: Thank you, Homo. givethemhell from GermanyThis is something I don't like, razor wire, neither to keep people in nor out. 29 Apr 2008 11:16am @givethemhell: Sometimes a necessity. Thank you, Eva. Observing from Chester, United KingdomLooks like they are serious... must be something worth protecting? Was it risky taking that shot? Great shot. 29 Apr 2008 11:36am @Observing: This is around our wall so is designed to keep people out who might want to do us harm. I wanted to get closer because the wire looked even stranger from a different angle but it involved climbing a wood fence which might have aroused security personnel with nasty guns. Thank you, Mike. Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaYiiiikes did you name that well!!!! impressive photo Michael! 29 Apr 2008 11:57am @Lorraine: Thanks, Lorraine. A little shocking but I wanted to document it. Teresa Durães from Montijo, PortugalI think the shot is great but the light in the left is a element that capture our attencion and forget the rest 29 Apr 2008 12:20pm @Teresa Durães: Thank you for your interpretation. Betty from New Jersey, United StatesExcellent title for an excellent photo. Very interesting! 29 Apr 2008 12:44pm @Betty: Thank you very much, Betty. Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesGreat title for a great shot ... and I think that wire's keeping the good guys IN! 29 Apr 2008 12:56pm @Judy: Keeping us a little safe anyway. We do leave everyday for work. Thank you, Judy. António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalSigns of our times. I perfectly agree with Judy. 29 Apr 2008 1:03pm @António Pires: Many thanks, António. Daroru from Amagasaki, JapanThat is a very well composed shot. Sad the story behind it is so disappointing... is it really so bad there? 29 Apr 2008 1:59pm @Daroru: There have been a number of accounts on compounds by terrorists. Many thanks, Daroru. Koushiro~光子郎 from Singapore, SingaporeOh wow! Love the lighting there! especially the spotlight, give it the effect ^^ 29 Apr 2008 2:25pm @Koushiro~光子郎: Many thanks. Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesDecorative barbed/razor wire. A new trend, eh? Seriously, this is a powerful image; the side lighting makes the wire sizzle. 29 Apr 2008 2:46pm @Viewfinder: Thank you, VF. It would be attractive if it weren't so sinister. Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomChilling but fascinating at the same time and, seeing this, I may hafta review my own security. All I have are wire spikes to deter pigeons! 29 Apr 2008 3:17pm @Ronnie 2¢: Pigeons can be pretty dangerous. Thank you, Ronnie. Tracey from White Hall, United StatesFantastic! The light makes the wire seem like some kind of sinister snake coiled and ready to strike. A very string image. 29 Apr 2008 3:43pm @Tracey: Excellent interpretation. Thank you, Tracey. @Elisa: Thank you, Elisa. Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesTerrific shot, Michael. It has a very strong, beautifully abstract feeling to it, and, yet, knowing what it is I still find your photograph of it quite beautiful. 29 Apr 2008 6:07pm @Ron: Thank you, Ron. That's an uplifting comment. Anne from White Rock, CanadaI love the way you got the light shining on this fantastically shaped wire! It is fashioned almost like the design on Arabic buildings! You do have a knack for making the ordinary extraordinary! But, it must feel awful to have to be protected in this way! Ughh! Don't fence me in!! :-) 29 Apr 2008 6:30pm @Anne: Yes, it does have an Arabic look. I think this kind of protection (and more) is part of everyday life for Westerners here. Thank you, Anne. Chris from South Jersey, United StatesGreat shot - you took something that is kind of foreboding and menacing and made it look like it was dancing (much more upbeat)! Well done..... 29 Apr 2008 8:01pm @Chris: Nicely put. Thank you, Chris. @standley: Thank you, Standley. Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesWonderful capture of grace! Be careful Michael! 29 Apr 2008 9:51pm @Craig: Many thanks for the sentiment, Craig. @Farhad.B: Thank you, Farhad. @Oswegan: Many thanks, O.
