London Eye cabinsPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 4 March 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. The cabins of the London Eye go through a complete revolution once every half hour. (See yesterday's photo for a more complete look at the London Eye observation wheel.) In the background on the other side of the Thames River is the Royal Horseguards Hotel. It took me a lot of research on the internet to find out the name of that building. I think London must have one of the best police forces in the world. But I was surprised when I asked two community police officers the name of that structure and they didn't know. It looked so beautiful and historical that I thought it would be well-known. Perhaps London just has too much which is beautiful and historical.

Oswegan from Lake Oswego, United StatesWhat a great ride. I bet there are some great views from up there. 4 Mar 2008 5:42am @Oswegan: 25-mile views. Many thanks, O. dpm from Malé, MaldivesLondon eye and the Royal Horseguards Hotel 4 Mar 2008 5:53am @dpm: Thank you, dpm. givethemhell from GermanyThe contrast between old and new is stunnning, Michael. You caught it very well in this photo, modern technology and a historical building in the background. As a police-hater I may ask though: What's so great about the London Police? Police is police, the whole world over. Better to stay away from them, if possible! 4 Mar 2008 5:55am @givethemhell: I think the London police have a reputation for being helpful and rather mild. I like your old/new observation, Eva. Many thanks. e. from New York, NY, United StatesThis is awesome! I would love to see London from that high up. :) 4 Mar 2008 6:08am @e.: I'm sure you will. Thank you, e. Rhys from Darlington, United Kingdomgreat contrasting shot of the contemporary-traditional. You're right, London has so many interesting places. I visit about 3 or 4 times a year and never tire of the experience (even when working!), it gets even more interesting the more you explore the non-tourist parts. You'll have to go back! 4 Mar 2008 6:28am @Rhys: Thanks, Rhys. There is just so much to discover there. rain girl from Delhi, India"Royal Horseguards Hotel" looks elegant in the background. Dara from Irvine, United Statesits good to see the beauty of London from the sky, I saw London for the first time when I came from Iran, it was 4 or 4:30 pm, and we had to make some rolling to have the right time to land , and it was beyond my expectation, i loved this city and now you remind me that I should see it again from a very high point to see the beauty of this city. 4 Mar 2008 7:19am @Dara: Thanks, Dara. 4 Mar 2008 6:29pm @Evelyne Dubos: Merci, Evelyn.
