London Eye and Jubilee GardensPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 3 March 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Above us, the London Eye levitates like an optical illusion 439 feet over surrounding Jubilee Gardens. The British-Airways-built structure is the tallest observation wheel in the world. It differs from a Ferris wheel because it revolves very slowly, only once every half hour allowing tourists a 25-mile view in all directions. I am frittering away time waiting for the start of my amphibious excursion of the streets and waterways of the British capital aboard London Duck Tours.

Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaYour photos always take me to a new place, and that's very special, I'm so enthralled that I forget to mention what a litterary wonder you are...You really write well. You should do it professionally if you're not doing it already ;) 3 Mar 2008 1:10pm @Lorraine: Your comment is very uplifting as usual, Lorraine, and I thank you. In a very small way, I'm writing professionally, mainly for newspaper travel sections. Perhaps one day that will blossom into something even more enjoyable. I detect a gift with words in you as well. Koushiro from Singapore, SingaporeIt seems slanted for some reason... But otherwise, Great shot! and thanks for the trivia! 3 Mar 2008 1:22pm @Koushiro: I find the slant adds interest. Part of the joy of photography is that things don't have to be straight up and down and you can tilt them where you want. Thanks for the comment. @rain girl: Thanks so much. vu@granby - Wolfgang Prigge from Granby, QC, CanadaGreat composition, the two women in the foreground and Big Ben in the far background make it a hit! 3 Mar 2008 1:53pm @vu@granby - Wolfgang Prigge: Great comment. Photographs by M.E. from Encino, United Statesthat's huge! the 2 people walking gave me a sense of scale! 4 Mar 2008 4:31pm @Photographs by M.E.: It is a monstrous wheel. Thanks again. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanA very beautiful angle, Michael! You managed not only to show the Big Eye, but also to include a bit of the background, with Big Ben so clearly rising above other buildings. And the presence of the two women makes manifest the popularity of the location! Though it is such a modern shape, it works well with its surroundings, it does not disturb the eye that much and it is a bonus for tourists when it comes to views of ensemble. 5 Mar 2008 7:31am @Japanalia: Thanks, Gabriela. I had a bad impression of London at first too because of the smell and daunting appearance of the Underground as well as the speed and noise of traffic. But i think the city grows on you the more you get to know it. @alla: Odd is not bad. Thank you, Alla. |
