Blowing tents - Saudi ArabiaPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 1 February 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. When a winter storm comes up over the Red Sea, tents blow and a surprising amount of rain pelts down soaking the parched ground. Children usually run out into the midst of the downpour to rejoice in the unusual phenomena of rain. Certain child-like adults have been known to do the same. In the desert, even a cloud is a noteworthy event.

Steven from Montreal, CanadaYou've really captured the wind, the tents look like they're just about to blow away. Well done! 1 Feb 2008 10:06am @Steven: Thanks, Steven. The wind must have been more than 20 knots that day. @paola veneziani photography: Thank you so much, Paola. Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomNice one, a very dynamic shot, which has a surprising level of action. Desert rains can be quite dangerous, as I was once caught out by a desert rain storm one night which was happening about 50 miles away - by morning the flash floods took out all the trails leaving me stranded and with a very long walk round. 1 Feb 2008 10:27am @Richard_Irwin: Great story. I've seen wadi areas so deep that cars couldn't cross and began to float. So I agree with you. Thanks, Richard. dailyphotosofmalé from malé, Maldivesoften child like behavior is the most rejoicing moments of our lives 1 Feb 2008 10:53am @dailyphotosofmalé: I agree with you. The photo is interesting, telling a lot about nomads' lives. 1 Feb 2008 1:12pm @givethemhell: Thank you. The tents weren't really for nomads but for city people who like to sleep on the beach from time to time. They could play nomad.
