Picking rose hipsPosted by Michael Skorulski (Cigel, Slovakia) on 9 January 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. Rose hips make a lovely tea or jam and are loaded with vitamin C. But my, the thorns pierce the flesh and cling with an unusual malevolence. Painful job picking this crimson fruit.

Barbara from Florida, United StatesWonderful composition with just the hands. Interesting to see rose hips. I have gained some knowledge here. I never really knew what they looked like and to hear they have thorns. Nicely done. 9 Jan 2008 6:04am @Barbara: Thanks, Barbara. Yes the thorns are quite unpleasant. I've picked my share and shouted "oww" on a number of occasions. gene from patterson, United Statesi love the purity of this photo. its simplicity is wonderful.. 9 Jan 2008 6:05am @gene: Thanks, Gene. I was hoping for purity and simplicity. Mindy from United StatesWhen I first saw the image, I thought, "Wow, how vibrant!" After reading your narration, I really appreciated my health and all that goes into producing what I need to maintain it. I also remembered all I went through when picking oranges 20 years ago for a few months...not quite as delicate a job as picking rosehips, I suppose. But I still have the scratches on my arms to show for it. Very informative posting and well-composed image. 9 Jan 2008 6:41am @Mindy: Thank you for your wonderful comment, Mindy. Picking anything is not always as easy as it looks. Rags from Plano, United Statesit is interesting that the things that look so pretty sometimes are the ones that could bring us pain and hurt. 9 Jan 2008 6:57am @Rags: What a true comment, Rags.
